How to Choose a Telephone Headset
When selecting a telephone headset you want to evaluate your specific needs:
- Wireless or Corded Phone Headset
- Corded telephone headsets are suitable if you only work
at your desk - they are directly connected to the telephone set
- Wireless telephone headsets are ideal if you want freedom to move about
the office, want a headset without cords and require multi-unit conferencing
capability.
- Type of environment - normal or noisy
- Want sound in one or both ears - monaural or binaural
- Monaural Headset (one ear) if you want to be aware of what is going on
around you during a phone call
- Binaural Headset (both ears) if you only want to hear the caller's voice
without distractions
- What is your preferred headset wearing style
- Headband
- Earhook
- Behind the neck
- Interchangeable - offers more than one wearing style - headband or ear
hook
- Direct Connect or Amplified Telephone Headset
- Direct Connect - Connects directly to headset port on telephone system.
Sennheiser headsets use a direct connect cable based on the model of
the telephone system. Volume is controlled by the telephone set.
- Amplifiers - An amplifier has several functions other than connecting to the
phone set. In addition to the volume control feature on the amplifier, there
is generally a mute button, a button to easily switch from handset to
headset, and a disconnect button. Ideal for Call Center operations.
